Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Engineering Workshop Manager with a strong background in 5 Axis CNC machining to manage and optimise our engineering workshop operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in running 5-Axis CNC machines, particularly those with Heidenhain control systems, and possess experience with CAM systems. As the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth running of the workshop, managing a small team of engineers, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all workshop operations, including scheduling, workflow, and production targets, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely delivery of projects.
- Supervise, lead and build a team of CNC operators, machinists, and other workshop staff, providing training, guidance, and performance management.
- Operate and maintain 5-Axis CNC machines, with a focus on precision and quality control in manufacturing parts for the Lead Acid Battery sector.
- Utilise CAM software to generate toolpaths, program machines, and optimise machining processes for complex parts and assemblies.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies in the workshop, maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality control teams to meet production requirements and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and ensure all machinery is in optimal working condition.
- Continuously improve workshop processes, increase productivity, and reduce downtime.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and best practices to optimise efficiency and minimise waste.
- Report to the Directors on workshop performance, project progress, and any areas for improvement.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a CNC Engineer or Workshop Manager in a similar manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with 5-Axis CNC machines, preferably Hedelius machines with Heidenhain control systems.
- Strong knowledge of CAM systems (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience managing a team of machinists or engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues swiftly.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality products.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Solid understanding of machining techniques, tooling, and materials.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive and organised approach to workshop management, with a focus on efficiency and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with Hedelius machines or similar 5-Axis CNC engineering machinery is an advantage.
- Living in or near the Devon area is preferred, but candidates willing to relocate will be considered.
