As the Senior Chef at The Garth Nursing Home, you will be responsible for overseeing the culinary operations of our kitchen. The ideal candidate is a passionate and creative chef with proven leadership skills, committed to providing a positive dining experience for our residents. You will play a crucial role in menu planning, kitchen management, and maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Planning and Development:
- Create well-balanced and nutritionally sound menus that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of residents.
- Stay informed about dietary trends, food allergies, and restrictions to accommodate diverse resident requirements.
Kitchen Management:
- Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation.
- Manage kitchen staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team.
Quality Control:
- Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Budget Management:
- Collaborate with management to develop and manage food budgets.
- Source ingredients cost-effectively without compromising quality.
Training and Development:
- Train and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and professional work environment.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and share knowledge with the team.
Catering for Special Events:
- Plan and execute special menus for events and celebrations within the nursing home.
- Collaborate with the events team to meet specific dietary requirements.
Supplier Relationships:
- Manage relationships with food suppliers, ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of fresh and high-quality ingredients.
- Negotiate contracts and monitor supplier performance.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Senior Chef or Executive Chef, preferably in a healthcare or nursing home setting.
- Culinary qualifications and certifications.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of nutrition, dietary needs, and food safety regulations.
- Creativity and adaptability in menu planning.
Education and Experience:
- Culinary degree or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a professional kitchen.
