Job Requirements/Description

General duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide a high quality and inclusive provision for children aged 2-5 which meets each individual child’s needs, in partnership with their parents/carers.
  • Work as part of a team alongside other Pre-School staff and volunteers.
  • Attend meetings, training and fundraising events as required.
  • Use your knowledge, experience and imagination to come up with new ideas and activities.
  • Setting up and packing away resources.
  • Attend training and keep up-to-date with changes to welfare requirements, planning for children’s learning and safeguarding procedures.
  • Show a strong commitment to training and on-going professional development.
  • Any other duties reasonably required by the Pre-school Manager.

Specific Duties

  • To support the provision of a comfortable, safe, stimulating and fun environment which provides consideration for every family’s ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds and each child’s individual needs.
  • To provide a range of play and learning activities to ensure the delivery of learning objectives in accordance with the EYFS.
  • To participate in activities and opportunities, which extend learning, appropriate to the child’s individual needs (this may include off-site trips) and to keep all equipment and resources in an organised and safe way.
  • To carry out the full range of duties which include serving of refreshments to children and overseeing lunchtimes, the supervision and care of individuals and groups of children throughout the day from 9.00am – 3.00pm and the general care and welfare of all children throughout the daily session, as part of, and in addition to, the curriculum
  • To ensure that the pre-school environment, inside and outside, is kept safe, tidy and stimulating at all times and that resources are cared for appropriately.
  • To act as a key person:Observing, assessing and recording each child’s progress with reference to the pre-school policies. Paid additional keyworker time.
  • Planning and evaluating daily, weekly, and termly to meet the children’s needs and interests as well as the curriculumWorking with individuals and groups of children as appropriate to their developmentWorking in partnership with parentsOrganising a smooth transition from home to pre-school and pre-school to school.
  • To undertake appropriate professional development as required and to keep up to date with current practise by attending courses, reading documents and own study as required.
  • To have the knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, the children’s act, EYFS and any other relevant legislation. To ensure all children are kept protected and safe through the use of recognised child protection guidelines and that children are referred to other agencies as required.
  • To accept, and contribute to, supervision, annual appraisal and training and contribute to the development of effective teamwork establishing good communication systems, including team training and regular staff meetings.

Child led duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality care for children aged 2 to 5 years old.
  • Liaise where necessary with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure children are fully safeguarded.
  • Support children as they develop independence and self-help skills.
  • Being a Key worker to a group of children, which includes planning, regular observations on Tapestry, end-of-term reports and parent meetings.
  • Building relationships with children and communicating well with their parents, carers and relevant professionals involved with the child, to ensure children’s individual needs are met
  • Be able to set clear next steps for children’s learning.
  • Keep appropriate, accurate and efficient records to support the child’s learning, play and well-being.
  • Ensure you are fully are aware of all welfare requirements, and that all procedures for child protection and safeguarding are understood and effectively implemented.
  • Liaise with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator regarding application of Pre-School policy to support children.

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: From £12.50 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 35 per week
