Headquartered at the picturesque Roslin Innovation Centre, BIOCAPTIVA is entering an exciting phase of growth. We are seeking talented scientists with expertise in chemistry and biology to join our dynamic team. These laboratory-based roles will focus on developing groundbreaking polymer technologies and applications that enhance disease management and improve lives.

As part of our team, you will play a pivotal role in commercial research and development – from ideation to product design – while gaining diverse laboratory and professional skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Position

Research Scientist

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the company's R&D and quality teams on multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Prepare and test polymer biomaterials with biological samples.
  • Run biological assays such as Qubit, qPCR, and ELISA.
  • Optimize processes for RNA/DNA recovery and purification.
  • Provide input to product design.
  • Operate under the company’s quality and risk management systems.
  • Maintain detailed and effective records.
  • Assess the latest scientific literature.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory.
  • Attend and engage at regular team meetings. 

Qualifications and skills

  • Postgraduate qualification in biology and/or chemistry.\
  • Molecular biology training.
  • Experience of using RNA/DNA extraction techniques.
  • Experience with biological assays.
  • Experience of process development and optimization.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of biological materials and contamination risks.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective record keeping skills.
  • Self-sufficient in a research laboratory setting.
  • Data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management. 

Desirable

  • Experience in next generation sequencing and bioinformatics.\
  • Experience in synthetic and analytical chemistry.
  • Experience operating under a quality system.
  • Experience of using ELNs.
  • Familiar with working with intellectual property.
