Peter Smythe Transport Training Ltd has a rich history dating back to 1947 when it started as Forest Driving School, the second car driving school operator in the Mansfield area. In the 1970s, Forest expanded to include PSV (bus) driver training, while Peter Smythe was gaining experience in the coaching and haulage industries. Peter purchased the school in 1984, adding a truck to the fleet and quickly establishing the school as a significant player in the transport training industry.
In the 1990s, a large motorcycle school was added, which was sold in 2004 to the Senior Motorcycle Instructor, who continues to operate as Bikeskool. By Christmas 2007, we moved to a state-of-the-art training center in Mansfield Woodhouse, the first in the UK to be accredited as a DVSA driving test center.
In September 2015, we relocated to a purpose-built facility in Stanton Hill, Sutton-in-Ashfield, featuring two reversing areas, modern offices, and reception. This center was immediately accredited by the DVSA, making it the only DVSA-accredited training center between Luton and Carlisle until the scheme ended in December 2016. We are now accredited by NVDIR.
Our offices are open from 07:30 to 17:30, Monday to Friday. We welcome visits without the need for an appointment, and our friendly staff are always happy to show you around!
